Teller County Geography

Geography

Teller County offers you a variety of geographic differences throughout the county. The county's 559 square miles located north and northwest of Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak means everywhere in the county you will be at altitude. County residents generally live between 8200 and 10,000 feet in elevation.

Topography includes rugged granite outcroppings and picture perfect mountain meadows. Interlaced within these two extremes you will find water in the form of streams, brooks, beaver ponds, lakes, and reservoirs. The arid climate and high mountain wind thermals can make the forests tinder dry quickly.

Colorado Springs and Teller County are one of the highest ranked geographic locations in America for the number of lightening strikes hitting the ground each year. Always be aware of changing mountain weather.
